#28 More reading newsletters for Reading.email and they added to Finding.email
Accessibility is a problem
This week the focus is on reading and one newsletter that promotes reading six other newsletters in a great collaboration.
Accessibility and Reading
People don't only use web browsers for Finding.email and Reading.email. Some people use Screen Readers. These clients often turn the text into audio and let the person navigate with audio prompts. Or use other methods to make the web more accessible.
It turns out that Reading.email and Finding.email are not working for Screen Readers as well as I had thought. For example, in Reading.email when you click on a newsletter's headline, the newsletter is displayed. Apparently this change to the content is not noticed by some Screen Readers. There are other cases too.
So I have some work to do.
This Week's Promoted Newsletters
Memoir Monday is for readers. It is a collaboration between Catapult, Granta, Guernica, The Rumpus, Narratively, and Lithub. In one newsletter you get one essay selected by each of these publications. I applaud this effort and strongly suggest you take a look if you like reading. It is also a way to see how literary magazine have adopted to newsletters.
New List
In honor of this reading collaboration I put together a reading list of the seven newsletters: Memoir Monday and the six participating organizations. So if you like Memoir Monday, you'll like the Memoir Monday newsletter list.
In the same update Memoir Monday, Catapult, Granta, and Guernica were added into Finding.email. The Rumpus, Narratively, and Lithub have all been listed since our January launch. There are now 515 newsletters in our newsletter directory.
Note: no publication compensated us for this promotion. This may not always be the case.
Thank you for being a member of Reading.email
This is a lot of reading, so I'll end here. Please follow a few of these newsletters in our web app.
And thank you for sharing with more people. Welcome new subscribers.
