#43 Back at you the Reading.email newsletter
with careers, essays, fiction, English views, art, and games.
The first version of Deving.email (https://deving.email) is ready on my computer and I will soon deploy it so you can see it. I had to take a break from this newsletter to concentrate on that coding. Right now there is only a placeholder page but In the next couple of days it should be available.
First Year of Reading.email
It was a year ago that the Reading.email app was announced with Poetry, Virus News, and AM News lists. So a brief review of the year before getting to a few newsletters of note.
Most of the users of Reading.email come from Finding.email when looking at a sample issue. Finding.email, our newsletter directory, has been very successful. A new submission arrives every few days. It is very close to 600 entries.
In the first year Reading.email also grew the number of newsletters to the point of making it difficult to use. So starting in early summer a new version was started that evolved into Deving.email. New features in that app will be brought into Reading.email.
Launching Reading.email tested the market for a newsletter reader. Because of the very slow growth of both this newsletter and Reading.email users, it appears that there is little demand for such an app. And much of the demand is probably being meet by the newsletter reader built into Substack. So what is the path forward?
The future
I will continue to add newsletters. A new version of Finding.email and Reading.email will continue to make progress. And I'm really looking forward to launching Deving.email and similar products for other specialties.
Six Newsletters
People Skill (PPLSKILL) newsletter provides info to empower your career. Vahid Nezhad's last issue on Source Evaluation had an interesting look at "From data to knowledge via fake news". Reminded me of the old book "How To Lie with Statistics". In Career list.
Desk Notes from Charles Schifano sends out a weekly essay on travel, literature and other observations. I was particularly stuck by The Bad Words issue in August because of my interest in the topic of denial. It was more a series of questions than an answer.
Innocently Macabre from Ajinkya Goyal is fiction stories in both bonus stories and a just finished series called Due North. There is a way to read the beginning since the reverse chronological order of a newsletter shows the ending first. Because several back issues are available on Reading.email, that is another way to read more. This links to Episode 3
Irregular Thoughts from Simon Carne takes an occasional look at thing from England. With five issues topics have included tennis (2), Labour party, a not scam, and National Insurance.
Adventure Snack is an actual game sent via email. Really. Take a look at the Ghost Pirate Cruise issue which features several newsletter fiction writers including Ajinkya Goyal of the Innocently Macabre fiction newsletter. This is a great example of an interactive newsletter.
YouTopian Journey newsletter is an overview of the art featured on the Instagram @youtopianjourney. Sorta graphic novel. I feel if I say too much that I'll spoil it.
