New Journalists, Photos, Gerrymandering, and Politico Newsletters on Reading.email
The web app for reading email newsletters
This week there are four new lists, two new promoted newsletters and a total of 21 newsletters. Also a new feature which I am very excited to have completed which is explained shortly.
Hidden Benefit of a Newsletter App
A great benefit of Reading.email is not readily apparent. At least for me, the app is much different than my big inbox where I feel the need to read ASAP. If I don’t react the incoming newsletter will get lost or forgotten. And rarely do I ever read a back issue in my big inbox. With Reading.email I open the app with the intention of reading, not answering email. It is a different pace that less stressful and better experience for my reading. And I read more newsletters.
New Newsletters
This Week's Promoted Newsletters:
PressRun is a newsletter with a paid option that comments on problems in media coverage and reporting. The comments during this US election season are eye opening. Enjoy PressRun.
Storm Lake Times is the newspaper for a rural city in northwest Iowa. Art Cullen and the paper won the 2017 Pulitzer Prize for his editorials on corporate farming. This newsletter provides a non-costal, non-urban news for your daily reading and links to other papers. Art Cullen’s writing occasionally appears in newspapers like the New York Times, The Guardian and the Washington Post as well which you can find by following @cullen_art
Note: these publications did not compensated us for this promotion. This may not always be the case.
Topic Lists:
Logging in to Reading.email now gives you access to four more lists: News Journalists, Photos, Gerrymandering and Politico. In the previous three weeks we've highlighted AM News, The Atlantic, Axios, Books, Climate, Coronavirus science, Coronavirus news, Media, NPR, Poetry, Reading and US Politics. Each week we'll add more lists. Please login this week and see the newsletters featured below:
News Journalists are nine professional writers who are striking out on their own instead of working for a newspaper. Their backstories are all different. This movement is one of the top media stories of 2020. Some issues are available in Reading.email with additional issues emailed to you when you pay for a subscription. See if any of these are of interest.
Anne Helen Petersen and Heather Cox Richardson each have very influential newsletters with great writing. Popular Information and Ben Thompan's Stratechery are award winners and early adapters to the paid newsletter format. Andrew Sullivan and Anand Giridharadas are relatively newcomers to paid newsletters and bring an audience with them. Media commentary in Press Run has rightfully well recognized. Carey Newton's Platformer was featured in the previous two issue. For me, Importantville by Adam Wren is the newsletter that first pointed to this trend of paid newsletters for journalists. After journalism school he decided not to follow others to the coast but to write from the midwest and he has a great perspective. Nine newsletters found here.
Photos continues our promotion of cultural newsletters. Previously lists were Poetry, Books and Reading. While newsletters may not be the best app for telling photo stories, visually stunning photos are in newsletters from Astronomy Picture of the Day, Better Photo, JPG Newsletter, and The Atlantic. We are certainly missing some very good ones and welcome suggestions. Five newsletters found here.
Gerrymandering and voter suppression in US Elections is a difficult story to tell without hearing from the activists trying to change the system. So the six “newsletters” in the list also include All on The Line, Fair Fight, Fair Vote, Gerrymander Gazette and National Democratic Redistricting Committee. Five newsletters found here.
House List:
Politico specializes in politics in Washington DC, in Canada, around the world, in some states and with additional specialties. They have 35 newsletters. In Reading.email you’ll find their AM and PM Politico Playbook, Nightly, Space, Canada Corridors and The Long Game (Climate) . We’ve just added the China Watch and the Presidential Transition. More to come. Eight newsletters found here.
New Feature: urls for Lists
If you clicked on a link for the above list, you’ve seen that the link takes you directly to the list of the newsletters and back issues. Personally, I’ve bookmarked the AM News link. These newsletter arrive before 7:00 am Eastern and it is part of my morning routine.
This is exciting because it makes it easier to share Reading.email via email or on social media. Just copy a url and share.
Thank you for being a member of Reading.email
