Traitor Robert E. Lee, Equality, Novelleist, and Pudding
Podcast recommendation as well as six newsletters.
Editorial: Recommending a Podcast and a Book
Ty Siedule is probably not a name you've heard. He is the retired Army brigadier general, professor, and former chairman of the history department at West Point. The most recent Cape Up podcast was "How Ty Seidule went from revering Robert E. Lee to being one of his fiercest detractors." I cannot recommend it strongly enough.
In the past we put the title General with Robert E. Lee. After this podcast I now believe that we should replace it with Traitor. There should be stickers made up for every street sign that bears his name. And certainly every school. And old history books. If we cannot tell the truth about Traitor Lee how do we get to the truth about January 6th and the Big Lie?

This Week's Promoted List
Equality is a long overdue list and yet it still need work. One thing Covid exposed was inequality in the United State for healthcare, money, justice and more. This is the work we need to do as a nation.
The first newsletter in this list is "Inequality This Week" from Inequality.org. Their most recent headline: "There’s No Labor Shortage. Pay Workers More." Highly recommended. A more global view is provided by the "The New Humanitarian Cheat Sheet" newsletter. I've added "Anti-Racism Daily", which is also in the Race list. "The Marshall Project" is a non-profit providing a digest newsletter with a focus on criminal justice. All important topics that deserve visibility and attention.
This Week's Promoted Newsletters
Novelleist is truly a gem of a newsletter. Elle Griffin is the author and is using this newsletter to detail her experiment in publishing. Her plan is to release her novel as a paid newsletter retrieving the concept of serial novels. Her post on "The one where writing books is not really a good idea" talks about what a small market there is for books on both sides now. If you are interested in reading I suggest you pay attention. So good that I added her newsletter without delay.
Pudding is all about the visuals. UXCollective newsletter highlighted this project on geographic music bubbles. This is like JavaScript Journalism stories from my talks in 2013. Their newsletter links to many data vis stories. Such great ways to tell stories.
Note: no publication compensated us for this promotion. This may not always be the case.
